High school student Kei Kurono meets an abrupt and gruesome end trying to rescue a homeless man on Tokyo's subway tracks alongside his childhood friend, Masaru Kato. Instead of passing into the afterlife, both boys awaken inside an unfurnished Tokyo apartment dominated by a mysterious black sphere known as Gantz. Surrounding them are other recently deceased strangers, all coerced into a brutal, secret survival game. The sphere opens to reveal a rack of futuristic black bodysuits, high-tech weaponry, and a single mandate: eliminate bizarre alien invaders hiding in plain sight across Japan before time runs out.

Survival demands relentless adaptability, forcing reluctant combatants to fight horrifying extraterrestrial threats under extreme psychological pressure. Participants earn points for every monster they destroy, with the ultimate goal of reaching 100 points to either erase their memories and regain their freedom or resurrect a fallen teammate. As Kei evolves from a self-centered teenager into a desperate, formidable combat leader, he must navigate betrayals, gruesome casualties, and the terrifying truth behind their alien tormentors. Readers seeking an uncompromising blend of survival horror, dark sci-fi, and raw human emotions can read Gantz online to experience one of modern manga's most iconic survival thrillers.
